A STUDY IN SILVER



She stoops to satisfy
the old tabby cat
as it weaves on the loom
of her ankles.

She says Nice kitty,
nice kitty, as her fingers
stretch to play a tune
on the cat's back.

She sings
Silver threads
among the gold...
pausing to stare at the sky,
hoping to find lost words.

The cat arches,
lacing gray, black, silver
threads into a simple design,
picking up the tune
with soft purring
as she croons Nice kitty
once again.
