YOU WHO MUST YOUR LIFE DENY

You young, for whom the fates again,
darkness and fear in war decree
oh may that agony and pain,
the sacrifice, be not in vain.
God's love your anchor be.

Oh you who must your life deny
who cannot hear the pounding sea
or glory in the earth and sky
nor gaze into a lover's eye
God's love your comfort be.

His love that in war's grim burlesque
can from all terror set you free,
uphold and shelter you in death
and help you breathe that last faint breath,
His love around you be.
