MINNESOTA SENIOR POET LAUREATE
Doreen Lindahl

I'M GLAD I SAID, "I LOVE YOU"

I'm glad I said, "I love you," before you left today...
We never dreamed you wouldn't be returning.
We didn't know you were going far away
With both of us left with tearful yearning.

Although you're gone, I still hold you in my heart...
I still can feel your loving warm embrace.
Our love is ours forever although we are apart,
And your presence still puts smiles upon my face.

Until we are together
I will send my love to you
And talk to you in private
As we always used to do.

I will listen in the silence for whatever you may say,
And I'm glad I said, "I love you," before you left today.
